Welcome to the all-new GTSRL Touge Battle Championship!
This is a 1v1 bracket tournament using tuned street cars. Each matchup will consist of single-lap races between two competitors. There will be a winner’s bracket and a loser’s bracket so no one is “one and done”. There will also be a Retromod-style driver’s guide document. The two best looking cars will get first round byes, along with one lucky person who will be randomly generated with each bracket!
What is Touge Racing?
· This will be a 1v1 championship! That means that only two cars will be on track per race. You will race the same opponent multiple times in each round.
· For the first race in a round, the grid starting order is decided based on a coin flip. If you win the coin toss and start “on pole” in the first race, you will start in second in your second race.
· Each race will be one lap around Grand Valley’s Highway 1 course.
Week 1
Week 1 will be for Round 1 only and will be held on 6/23. Round 1 will be a “best of 5” format, so each 1v1 will be a minimum of 3 races. If the score is tied after four races (two P1 starts each) and a fifth race becomes necessary, another coin flip will take place to determine starting order for the deciding race. All race winners from Round 1 will be placed in the “winner’s” bracket and all race losers placed in the “loser’s” bracket. The two best looking cars will receive a bye from Round 1 and will join the “winners” bracket, and one driver selected at random will also receive a Round 1 bye and join the “winner’s” bracket.
Week 2
Rounds 2 and 3 will be a “best of 3” format. Again, if the score is tied after two races (one P1 start each) and a third race becomes necessary, another coin flip will take place to determine starting order for the deciding race. Drivers will only be drawn against other drivers in the same bracket from Round 2 onwards. This will continue until we have a champion in each bracket. From Round 2 onwards, this is a straight knockout tournament. Lose your match up in any round, and you are eliminated from the series entirely.
The final rounds will consist of a semi-final and a final within each of the two brackets. The series final will consist of the two bracket champions facing off for the overall championship. All races from the bracket semi-finals onwards will be in a “best of 5” format.
Competitors will be randomly assigned their 1v1s using Challonge’s random bracket generator (https://challonge.com/tournament/bracket_generator). Each bracket will be generated several days in advance, so competitors receiving byes will know ahead of time.
