We are delighted to tell you about the SimGrid x VCO Grand Finals, this year the focus lies within the communities. We are one of the lucky communities that will be hosting a qualifying season. We will be doing this with 4 endurance races, these being 6 hours each. You can do these races with teams of 2 or 3 drivers, so you have plenty of time to bond real nice during these 6 hours of racing!
The SimGrid x VCO Grand Finals is a 3-round endurance championship that will take place in November and December 2023. The Grand Finals will feature a mixed-class grid of GT3 and GT4s. Each and every slot on the grid of the Grand Finals will be filled by teams who win their slots through ten different competitions held by some of SimGrid’s top communities.
From each of the competitions, the top 3 will secure a grid slot at the Grand Finals in the GT3 class. P4 and P5 will secure a slot at the Grand Finals in the GT4 class. And P6, P7, and P8 will enter a Grand Finals GT4 Play-Off that will take place in October 2023. The top 3 in the GT4 Play-Off will then be awarded the final GT4 slots at the Grand Finals.
At the Grand Finals, the drivers who participate will not only be representatives of the team they’re racing for, but the team itself will be a representative of JL Motorsports. This means the Grand Finals will not only have the team standings in each class but also community standings!
It is important to note that teams are free to enter as many of the ten different Grand Final qualifying competitions as they like. They can enter all ten if they want to! However, a qualified team is only allowed to receive a maximum of two slots in the Grand Finals, one per class.
To make sure that drivers don't switch to other teams, we have enabled the fixed driver lineup for this season. When signing up you select which drivers will be participating in this season, after that you need to select which drivers will be racing. Please don't skip this step, otherwise, you won't be on the entry list! To check if you signed up correctly, go to "Manage Registration" and have a look if you have selected the drivers.
We will be driving at Spa, Valencia, Bathurst, and Suzuka. Each race will be 6 hours long with a 20-minute qualifying session. Every race will have different weather elements, so you better bring your sunglasses but also an umbrella! But keep looking at your tires, because you only have access to 6 dry tire sets for the whole weekend, so make sure you use them optimally.
All the races will start at 4:00 PM UTC / 12:00 PM EST. The tracks with their corresponding dates are the following:
The weekend will go as follows:
We will be providing live stewarding for all races, this means that incidents that include contact don't have to be reported, since the software will automatically pick this up. However, incidents that don't involve contact can be reported in the following form: https://forms.gle/W2AqtVEABrGgwcA18
All the server details are displayed on the "Races" tab on SimGrid, these details will also be shared in our discord. We will launch the practice servers 3 weeks prior to the season starting and after that we will launch a practice session after each race has finished, so you will have plenty of time to practice.
We will do our absolute best to have every race hosted on our Twitch channel and the VOD will then be uploaded to our YouTube channel. The links to both platforms are the following: Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/jl_motorsports YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@jlmotorsports
Custom liveries are encouraged, keep in mind that these liveries could impact the performance of the game depending on the driver's pc hardware. You can upload the livery to the Awesome Sim Racing collection.
